Robyn Ryan - Fine Artist
Robyn Ryan is a painter and sculptor who creates works which express relationships between living things and the emotions they emmanate. Horses are a favorite subject, but all living things; human, plant, and animal, offer endless possibilities to express this theme. Ryan’s paintings express these relationships and emotions by exploring both “looser” realistic representations using watercolor as well as less-objective abstractions employing a range of water-based media. Her refined and realistic bronze sculptures focus on celebrating the energy and “presence” of her subjects, often captured in candid moments.
Ryan was accepted as the youngest student in a National Watercolor Society Artist’s class at eight years old in 1972. From this solid foundation, she has continually refined her talent by attending workshops, classes, and working with other professional artists whose work she greatly admires. Ryan currently produces her art from her working studio, Ballyryan Studios, located in Fauquier, VA.
Ryan is the recipient of several awards and honors. She was Vice President of the Art First Gallery & Studios cooperative gallery in Fredericksburg, VA and has been featured in several group and solo shows, both juried and invitational. She has numerous pieces in private collections resulting from gallery sales, referrals, and commissions. Ryan was also selected to create the original artwork for multiple vintage wine labels at a local Virginia winery.
Ryan’s most recent exhibitions include ongoing displays of paintings with Art First Gallery and the North Windsor Artists at Liberty Town Arts Workshop, both in Fredericksburg, Va. Ryan held solo exhibitions in 2006, 2007, and 2008 at Studio A in Fredericksburg, VA as well as a 2007 solo exhibition at the Mad Hatter Bistro in Farmville, VA and a 2006 solo exhibition at the Steward School Gallery in Richmond, VA. Ryan had a painting and sculpture accepted into the 2006 EQUUS Exhibition at the Deland Museum of Art in Deland, FL. Also in 2006 Ryan is participating in the 2006 VA Fine Arts Festival and the 2006 Piedmont Artist’s League “Carousel of Color” Exhibition both events at the Highland Center for the Arts, Warrenton, VA. Ryan held a 2005 “Equine Shapes & Other Recent Work” Solo Exhibition in Fredericksburg, VA and had a painting selected for the Twenty-Sixth Virginia Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition in Charlottesville, VA. Ryan’s paintings received awards from the 2004 Inaugural Virginia Equine Artists Fall Exhibition in Lexington, VA as well as the 2003 National Society of Artists 21st National Juried Show in Texas City, TX. In addition, Ryan’s artwork was accepted into the 2003 Laredo Center for the Arts 11th Annual International Juried Exhibition and she was the featured Cover Artist for “The Chronicle of the Horse”, Friday, November 7, 2003.
